There are certain people with braces who have “rubber bands” either forming an X across the maxilla and the mandible, or just a single rubber band pulling both the maxilla and mandible together. Those rubber bands have a purpose, and that is to help people who have “over bites” or “under bites” correct their jaw alignment. Although some have other reasons why they attach rubber bands to their braces (i.e. to pull a hidden tooth inside the gum), over bites and under bites are the most common concerns addressed by these elastics. What these orthodontic rubber bands do is they pull both the maxilla and mandible towards the other direction.

Braces are important for those who need to correct their teeth. It seems cute when little kids wear them, but the problem starts if you’re already 30 and still need to correct yours. Would you go for that?

Oh yes. Invisalign is a terrific breakthrough in the dental industry. It is clear, almost invisible, yet it has this strong means of straightening your crooked teeth. You have to be warned though: you might spend a fortune for this type of braces, but users say it’s worth the penny!

There is nothing more worse than losing a tooth (or a couple of teeth). Many claim that they cannot anymore enjoy the food they wish to eat, most especially when they still had their munching gizmos. Although dentures are popular among the elderly, it is a warrant that they can only ingest soft foods since dentures easily break.

So, you ask, “do I have any choice?” Yes you do. Dental implants are quite popular for those who are willing to shell out some money. Yes, it is quite expensive, but the results are fantastic. You wouldn’t need those dentures anymore! And what’s good, you get to eat your favorite snack once again, just like before.

Dental veneers are thin customized covers put over the front surface of a tooth. The porcelain they’re made of is remarkably like tooth enamel in the way it behaves with light. They are both semi-translucent. They absorb some light and reflect some, so that they have the same sort of pearly shine and a porcelain dental restoration cannot be distinguished from natural teeth.

Veneers are not placed on back teeth. They’re used for front teeth as a quick way to give you a new smile. If you have any small chips on your teeth, or front teeth that are a bit crooked, or gaps between them that show when you smile, porcelain veneers could be an excellent option for you.

どうやら歯科治療用アマルガムに関する議論は、まだ進行中である。今回協議プロセスを始めたのは、2008年2月22日まで行われる、歯科治療用アマルガムとその代替手段に関する2つの科学的意見に焦点を合わせた欧州委員会である。

2つの意見を挙げると：

Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR)が、「歯科治療用アマルガムや代替の歯の修復剤は患者やユーザーにとって安全か？」という質問に答える試みをした仮報告書を作成した。この研究の結果は、2007年11月29日に発行された。結論は、アマルガムが有効な整復材であるということ、歯の修復のための選択材料としてかなり安全であるとみなされていることである。アマルガムとその材料の副作用の発生は低く、簡単に対処できる。アレルギー反応は別として、アマルガムは健康への危険を引き起こさない。

ここにセラミック修復治療法の欠点をいくつか挙げたい:

すべての歯科医がセラミック技術の専門家ではないので、修復をする歯科医が本当にセラミックの認定を受けた専門家であることを確認すること。

セラミックの詰め物は単一のセラミック製ブロックなので、本当の歯に最も近い色を見つけることに苦労するのは珍しいことではない。そのため前歯の上にセラミック修復をすると決めているなら、考え直した方がいいかもしれない。 恐らく奥歯にセラミックを選ぶ方が少しマシかもしれないだろう。美容歯科医が自然に見える歯を作成するための非常に熟練した腕を持っていないなら、この方がいい。

ここにセラミック修復治療法の利点をいくつか挙げたい:

ほとんどの場合は1回の訪問で済むので、セラミック修復治療法はそれほど手間がかからない。

セラミックは当初よりも高価にもかかわらず、追加料金を消す。セラミックの詰め物を選ぶことによって、一時的なものは全く必要ない。また、余分な実験技術者の料金や複数の診察料金などの追加料金も全く要らない。またこれらの要素は患者の不快を減少させる。

金属が全くないので、セラミックは合理的により審美性が高い。

セラミック材や技術は、陶材を材料とし、普通の白い合成の詰め物よりも長持ちすることを意味する。
